Anthony Vaccarello is a Belgian-Italian fashion designer best known for his audacious and provocative designs. Born on January 18, 1982 in Brussels to Italian parents, Vaccarello’s passion was sparked early on. Initially studying sculpture at La Cambre, he later switched to fashion design. His graduation collection, inspired by La Cicciolina, caught the eye of Karl Lagerfeld and led to a position at Fendi.
In 2009, Vaccarello launched his eponymous label and quickly gained attention for his tailoring, dramatic slits, plunging necklines, and form-fitting silhouettes. “I like to make clothes that are simple yet have an element of surprise,” Vaccarello has stated. His career reached new heights in 2012 when he won the prestigious ANDAM Fashion Award, paving the way for his appointment as creative director of Versus Versace in 2015.
In 2016, Vaccarello succeeded Hedi Slimane and became the creative director of Saint Laurent. “I want to keep the essence of Saint Laurent but push it further,” Vaccarello has stated. Under his direction, Saint Laurent’s collections have been celebrated for their sleek and glamorous designs.
